FROM THE BISHOP’S OFFICE….
My Dear People of God:
Pope Francis continues to call us to an ever stronger solidarity with the poor. He repeatedly reminds us of our responsibility to go out to the ‘margins’ and to assist those in need.
The annual Black and Indian Mission Collection has, for more than 100 years, helped provide the financial resources necessary for Dioceses to provide priestly and religious services to Native Americans, African Americans, and Eskimo and Aleut communities. We ask for your continued support so that the Catholic mission among these groups might continue.
Through your assistance, Churches and schools in these communities are able to receive grants to help sustain and build their Cath-olic communities and share the joy of knowing Christ. Your support helps assure that missions, otherwise unable to provide for the costs of a priest, have Mass available for them. Funds received are also directed to the education of African American, Native American, Eskimo and Aleut seminarians for priestly service to our Catholic communities.
On July 8th and 9th, 2017, you are asked to participate in the Black and Indian Mission Collection. Together we build up the Church and announce the Good News of Jesus Christ. I ask you to be as generous as possible to evangelize and further the missionary cause of bringing the Gospel to our brothers and sisters in Christ. You can learn more about this collection at www.blackandindianmission.org.
