…..from the Pastor’s Desk:
Where is Father Ron and who is that guy?
Hello People of God!
As you read this I will hopefully be laying on the beach or swimming in the ocean, restoring mind, body and spirit. In Maui. My good friend from the seminary [now recently a retired priest from the diocese of San Diego] who lives in a condo two blocks from the ocean in Kihei, called me a few weeks ago and said he was coming back for a ‘stateside’ visit in August and if I wanted to, I could stay at his place for free! I usually don’t go anywhere during the summer, but I could not pass up the offer. I’ll be gone this Sunday and next, and back shortly after that. But you will be in very capable hands during my brief absence.
The priest saying mass this weekend is Father Bruce Lamb OFM, Conv. He filled in for me once before. He is a Conventual Franciscan. I am sure he will tell you about his community and ministry. I knew Father Bruce when he worked here in our diocese. He now lives with his brother Franciscans in Castro Valley.
I’ve also asked Father Loren Allen, my closest and oldest [as in time knowing him, not his age] priest friend to help out at Holy Spirit. We have been friends since before either of us were ordained. He will be here covering next weekend (8/11 to 8/16) as well as daily masses and be available for confessions and any other pastoral needs you may have.
Here is a bit about him: Father Loren Allen is a native Californian, ordained in 1994, and now a retired priest of the Diocese of Santa Rosa having completed seven years as pastor at St. Philip and St. Teresa churches in the West Sonoma County communities of Occidental and Bodega. Before that he was pastor in Eureka at St. Bernard Parish after serving as an administrator for three years in the Santa Rosa Diocesan offices. In addition to filling in at various parishes, he pursues his interests of history and travel. Please make him welcome. He has many great stories from his worldwide travels. Chances are, if you’ve been there – he’s been there! Share your travel adventures and experiences!
Father David Shaw, former pastor at Resurrection parish, and now also recently retired, will help with some daily masses. Father John Boettcher, an active priest from our diocese, will say mass on August 2nd.
Be nice to the visiting priests. They are doing me a great service by filling in while I am on break.
I’ll be praying for you at mass each and every day. (From the beach)
I love you all, God bless you.
