PROPOSTION: How about starting a ‘CATHOLIC MENS FORUM’ here?
To be a Catholic today can be a challenge. Many of our beliefs and traditions seem almost counter-cultural by today’s standards. That is okay, Jesus was considered quite counter-cultural and even radical and revolutionary in His.
I am sure this challenge is generational. It was quite illuminating to listen to the Confirmation Candidates speak about their unique issues and challenges to be a Catholic teen. I am sure that you young adults and those who are in the ‘dating scene’ experience another unique set of situations and circumstances that can certainly test your faith.
I have no idea what it is like to be a Catholic Woman. I have a pretty good idea of what it is like to be a Catholic Man in today’s world. Several of you have mentioned that it would be nice to meet with other men of their generation from the parish to develop their spiritual life by addressing specific topics of church doctrine and teaching as well as specific issues of the day. I agree, it is a great idea to set aside a time in which Catholic men can get together for that very purpose as well as review customs, practices, and Traditions of the faith. A time to learn. A time to listen. A time to teach. A time to speak. Possibly monthly.
Note: This is not in conflict or competition in any way with the ‘Holy Spirit Men’s Club’. They will be the first to tell you that their function is more ‘social’ than ‘spiritual’. That is exactly what they told me when I went to their officers a few years back [before the fires and COVID] and talked about this. They were all for it.
So, no snacks or libations – just good dialogue and discussion. As to when – that is yet TBD. I need some input from you first:
- Is this something you would be interested in? and
- If so, is there is a day and time that seems best for you?
Please let me know.
This is for, and by, the ‘Laity’. Clerics will only be brought in if needed for certain topics. Speaking of which, if this is a ‘go’ – we will have a suggestion box in the back of Church for ‘Catholic Men’s Group’ topics.
