…From Deacon Bob
Dear Parishioners of Holy Spirit,
It’s been about a year since I have been with you as your deacon and along with my wife, daughter and granddaughter. We have shared beautiful moments with you at mass and are so thankful for our church family. This is a warm and inviting parish that has made us feel welcomed and allowed us to feel God’s love through the many smiles and sharing of life stories. We feel blessed to be a part of this beautiful community. As we continue our journey together, I thought it would be nice to let you know a little more about me.
Throughout my life I have had this deep feeling of wanting to help people. When I decided to listen to God’s calling, I found myself going through the diaconate, becoming a deacon for the people of God and immersing myself in helping people in many ways throughout the diocese of San Diego. This took over twenty years of formation and spiritual growth founded on a deep prayer life and a life centered in giving myself daily to God, my wife, family and all those I encounter. I have found listening to God and finding what I have been created to do makes my life so much more meaningful.
This weekend I am blessed to celebrate mass here at Holy Spirit with my son, Fr. Dan Holgren. He has been a priest for 4 years and currently is an associate pastor in San Diego. It has been an honor to serve as his Deacon and celebrate mass with him. It is interesting to note how people have seen our relationship change over the years: Father and son, deacon and son, deacon and deacon, and now my son has become my “Father”! And a Father to the people of God.
Today may the image of two father’s love at the altar embrace you richly so you too can be an image of God’s light to all you encounter.
Deacon Bob Holgren
